This week began with a dismissal. My client was pulled over because her rear plate didn’t have the renewal tab on it, even though her registration was current and the state trooper knew her registration was current. After the trooper didn’t show up for 3 motion hearings and the judge set a contempt hearing, the State threw in the towel and conceded the trooper didn’t have probable cause to pull my client over. The end result – Case Dismissed!
Note to drivers: the Washington Legislature recently changed the law to say that your registration renewal is not complete until you have put your tabs on the license plate, so don’t think you’ll be safe in the future in a similar case.
